Football

Football is a team sport played primarily with a spherical ball between two teams of eleven players each. The objective of the game is to score goals by getting the ball into the opposing team’s net using any part of the body except the hands and arms, with the exception of the goalkeepers, who can use their hands within a designated area known as the penalty area.

The game is governed by a set of rules called the Laws of the Game, which are maintained by the International Football Association Board (IFAB). Football is known for its global popularity and is played and watched by millions around the world, with major events like the FIFA World Cup showcasing the sport’s international appeal.

While “football” can refer to different variations of the game in various regions (such as American football or Australian Rules football), in most countries outside the United States and Canada, the term primarily denotes association football, commonly known in the United States as “soccer.” The sport emphasizes teamwork, strategy, and skills such as dribbling, passing, and shooting. Football has a rich cultural significance and has influenced various aspects of society, making it one of the most significant sports worldwide.
